Location overview
Lake Jackson is a city in southern Brazoria County, Texas, near the Brazos River and the Gulf Coast. It was planned in the 1940s as a residential community for employees of the nearby Dow Chemical complex in Freeport. Curving streets, neighborhoods shaded by mature trees and a network of bayous distinguish it from many older Gulf Coast towns. The city’s archaeological museum preserves evidence from the 19th-century Lake Jackson plantation and sugar works. Petrochemical industry, education, health care, retail and regional services remain important to the local economy.
