Location overview

Brazoria County lies on the upper Texas Gulf Coast immediately south of the Houston metropolitan core. Angleton is the county seat, while Pearland, Lake Jackson, Alvin, Freeport and numerous smaller communities extend from suburban corridors to farmland, wetlands and barrier beaches. The Brazos River crosses the county before reaching the Gulf of Mexico, and bays, bayous and coastal marshes shape its southern edge. Brazoria County was created in 1836 during the Republic of Texas and took its name from the Brazos River. Petrochemical manufacturing, port activity, agriculture, health care, construction and tourism support its economy.
