Frederiksted, United States Virgin Islands, USA
Municipality
Location overview
Frederiksted is a waterfront town on the west coast of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Its grid of historic buildings faces a calm Caribbean harbor, while sugar-estate landscapes and forested hills spread inland. The town was laid out during Danish rule, and the 1848 emancipation of enslaved people in the Danish West Indies was proclaimed at Fort Frederik. Cruise visits, diving, fishing, heritage tourism and small businesses support the community today.
