Allegany County Transit

Allegany County Transit is the county-operated public transportation system serving Cumberland and surrounding communities in Allegany County, Maryland. The agency provides weekday fixed-route bus service connecting Cumberland with areas including LaVale, Cresaptown, Frostburg, Midland, Lonaconing, Barton and Westernport. It also operates Alltrans, a demand-response service for older adults and people with disabilities who cannot use the fixed-route system.

The system has long served as a regional transportation link in Western Maryland, where residents often depend on public transit to reach medical facilities, colleges, employers, shopping areas and government services. Its current route network includes color-coded bus lines, specialized morning and evening service, connections to Frostburg State University and demand-response transportation in more rural parts of the county. Allegany County Transit operates from its facility on Lafayette Avenue in Cumberland as a division of county government.
