City of Columbus
Organization overview

The City of Columbus is the municipal government of Ohio’s capital. Its elected mayor, nine-member City Council, auditor and city attorney administer executive, legislative, financial and legal functions under the city charter. The official government directory identifies departments and court-related offices serving residents, businesses and visitors, with City Hall at 90 West Broad Street.
Municipal responsibilities include police and fire protection, emergency communications, public health, refuse collection, streets, development, recreation and parks, and public utilities. The 2024 city financial report describes these functions and the supporting technology and financial administration. Some utility and court responsibilities extend beyond the municipal boundary; the city government is institutionally distinct from Franklin County and the state of Ohio.
