City of Dallas

The City of Dallas is the municipal government serving Dallas, the principal city of North Texas and the seat of Dallas County, with portions of the city extending into Collin, Denton, Kaufman and Rockwall counties. Dallas is a home-rule municipality operating under a council-manager form of government. Its governing body consists of a mayor elected citywide and 14 City Council members elected from geographic districts; the council establishes policy, adopts the budget and tax rate, enacts ordinances, and appoints the city manager and several other senior officials. The city manager oversees most daily municipal operations and departments. The government provides services including police and fire protection, emergency response, streets and transportation, water and wastewater utilities, sanitation, planning and development, code enforcement, parks and recreation, libraries, municipal courts, housing programs and cultural services.
