The City of Minot is the municipal government for Minot, the county seat of Ward County in north-central North Dakota. The city provides public safety, water, sanitation, streets, planning, parks, airport and other local services for residents and businesses. Minot is a regional center for commerce, health care and education and is closely connected to nearby Minot Air Force Base. The community was founded in 1886 during construction of the Great Northern Railway and quickly became known as the Magic City for its rapid growth. Agriculture, energy, transportation and military activity continue to shape the city’s economy and regional role.
