City of York

The City of York is the municipal government for York, the county seat of York County in south-central Pennsylvania. It operates under a mayor-council system and provides police, fire, public works, public health, planning, economic development, parks and other local services. York was laid out along Codorus Creek in 1741 and became an incorporated city in 1887. The Continental Congress met in York from 1777 to 1778 and adopted the Articles of Confederation there during the American Revolution. The city later developed as a manufacturing center, and its historic downtown remains the civic and commercial heart of the surrounding metropolitan area.
