Columbia University is a nonprofit institution of higher education and research in New York City. Founded as King’s College in 1754, it provides undergraduate, graduate and professional education. Its schools cover arts and sciences, engineering, business, law, journalism, medicine and other scholarly fields. The Morningside campus is centered near West 116th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. Other university locations include Manhattanville, the Irving Medical Center in Washington Heights and the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades.
