Organization overview
The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Government is the territorial government of the CNMI, a United States commonwealth in the western Pacific. The CNMI adopted its constitution in 1977, and its first constitutional government took office in 1978 under the political relationship established by the Covenant with the United States. Its executive departments and public agencies administer territorial finance, taxation, public safety, infrastructure, health, education and other government programs. Based primarily on Saipan, the government serves residents and businesses across the commonwealth’s island communities, including Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
