District of Columbia Housing Authority

The District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) is the independent public housing agency responsible for providing affordable housing and rental assistance to low- and moderate-income residents of Washington, D.C. Established in 1934 as one of the nation’s earliest public housing authorities, DCHA owns and manages thousands of public housing units and administers the federal Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program, serving tens of thousands of residents across the District. In addition to operating and maintaining affordable housing, the authority partners with private developers, nonprofit organizations and government agencies on housing redevelopment, mixed-income communities and resident self-sufficiency initiatives aimed at expanding access to safe, stable and affordable housing.
