Ellis County, Kansas

Ellis County is the county government for Hays and surrounding communities in western Kansas. Its administrative center is in Hays, the county seat, and its jurisdiction also includes Ellis, Victoria, Schoenchen and rural areas. County departments handle property appraisal, elections, records, roads, public health, emergency management and other services, while the district court serves the area. A county commission sets policy and budgets, working with an appointed administrator who manages daily operations. This structure serves both the regional center of Hays and smaller communities across the county’s predominantly rural landscape.
