Merrimack County

Merrimack County is the county government serving 27 cities and towns in central New Hampshire, with its administrative center in Concord. The county was created in 1823 from portions of Hillsborough and Rockingham counties and takes its name from the Merrimack River. Its landscape extends from the state capital and surrounding suburbs to rural communities, forests and lakes farther north. County institutions include a sheriff’s office, correctional facility, registry of deeds, nursing home and human-services programs. Merrimack County provides a regional layer of administration in a state where municipalities retain many local responsibilities.
