Mower County
Organization overview

Mower County’s government serves its southeastern Minnesota jurisdiction from the Government Center in Austin. Five elected commissioners serve staggered four-year terms, oversee county services and represent the county on boards and commissions. County offices administer property taxes, elections, property assessments and the recording of land and vital records. Health and Human Services manages programs supporting children, families and adults, while the Sheriff’s Office operates the jail, provides court security and serves legal papers. Public works and environmental services cover roads, land-use permitting, septic systems, recycling and household hazardous waste. An administration office supports county board business and coordinates administrative functions.
