Nacogdoches County, Texas

Nacogdoches County government is the local governing authority for Nacogdoches County in the Piney Woods of East Texas, serving a population of about 66,000 across approximately 982 square miles. Created in 1836 shortly after Texas declared independence and organized in 1837, the county is administered by an elected Commissioners Court consisting of the county judge and four commissioners, which oversees county finances, roads and bridges, elections, law enforcement support, courts, emergency management, public records and other essential local services. Headquartered at the historic county courthouse in the city of Nacogdoches, the county government provides services to both incorporated communities—including Nacogdoches, Cushing, Garrison, Appleby and Chireno—and the county’s extensive rural areas.
