Pennington County, South Dakota

The Pennington County government is the county-level public administration serving Pennington County in western South Dakota, including Rapid City and a large portion of the central Black Hills. Governed by an elected board of county commissioners, it provides services such as law enforcement through the sheriff’s office, emergency management, courts and legal administration, elections, property assessment and taxation, planning and zoning, road and bridge maintenance, public health support, and operation of the county jail. The county government also coordinates with municipalities, tribal governments, state agencies and federal land managers across a geographically diverse area that includes urban communities, rural settlements, tourism destinations and extensive public lands.
