Newpark Resources Inc. detected a ransomware incident on Oct. 29, 2024, after an unauthorized party accessed internal information systems. In its Nov. 7 disclosure, the company said it had activated its response plan and was investigating with external advisers.
Access to some internal systems and business applications was disrupted, including financial and operating reporting systems. Manufacturing and field operations continued in all material respects using established downtime procedures.
The company initially said it did not expect a material effect on its financial condition or operating results, while acknowledging that the full costs and consequences were still being assessed. That assessment did not mean its reporting systems were unaffected.
Its 2024 annual report reiterated the ransomware incident and recorded a $1.7 million insurance receivable related to a cybersecurity event at year-end. The 2025 report recorded a remaining $400,000 receivable. These accounting balances do not establish a ransom payment or the incident’s total cost.
The company changed its name to NPK International Inc. effective Dec. 9, 2024. The name change concerns the same legal entity. Its sale of the Fluids Systems business preceded the incident; descriptions of the affected company should reflect its remaining site-access business.
The reviewed filings identify ransomware but do not describe a specific encryption process, establish file theft, name an attacker or disclose a ransom demand or payment. Searches of the historical and current names and domains returned no ransomware.live lead; that is a bounded search result.
The incident is presumed resolved. Nov. 7 remains the latest specifically dated operational disruption established in the reviewed evidence. Later financial reporting about the incident does not establish a continuous outage or an exact final restoration date.
