Talladega County lies in east-central Alabama, with the city of Talladega as its county seat. The Coosa River valley, wooded Appalachian foothills and ridges of Talladega National Forest give the county a landscape that ranges from farmland to rugged mountain country. The county was created in 1832 after the Treaty of Cusseta opened former Muscogee lands to American settlement, and agriculture, railroads and industry shaped its growth. Talladega County had about 81,600 residents in 2025. Automotive manufacturing, motorsports, forestry, agriculture, education and outdoor tourism are prominent parts of its modern economy.
