St. Lucie County, Florida, USA

St. Lucie County is located on Florida’s Atlantic coast in the Treasure Coast region, about 60 miles north of West Palm Beach and 120 miles southeast of Orlando. The county extends from approximately 21 miles of ocean shoreline and the barrier islands along the Indian River Lagoon westward across flat coastal plains, wetlands, agricultural land and drainage districts toward Okeechobee County. Fort Pierce is the county seat, while Port St. Lucie is the largest city and contains most of the county’s population; the county also includes St. Lucie Village and several unincorporated communities. Major natural and geographic features include the Atlantic beaches, Fort Pierce Inlet, the Indian River Lagoon, the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and extensive conservation lands. St. Lucie County was established in 1905, covers about 688 square miles—roughly 572 square miles of land and 116 square miles of water—and serves as the center of the Port St. Lucie metropolitan area.
