Glynn County lies on Georgia’s Atlantic coast, with Brunswick as its county seat and only municipality. Its mainland and coastal islands form part of the Golden Isles region, including St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Sea Island and Little St. Simons Island. Marshes, waterways and beaches shape the coastal landscape. Created in 1777 as one of Georgia’s original eight counties, it was named for John Glynn, a British parliamentarian who supported the American colonies. Port activity, coastal tourism and seafood industries are important parts of its economy.
