Nez Perce County lies in north-central Idaho along the Washington border, with Lewiston serving as its county seat and largest city. The Snake and Clearwater rivers meet within the county, below rolling plateaus of farms, canyons and grasslands. The area is part of the homeland of the Nez Perce people, whose name the county bears. Established in 1864, it was one of the original counties of Idaho Territory. Agriculture, food processing, forestry, manufacturing, transportation and health care support the regional economy.
