Location overview
Idaho is a state in the inland Pacific Northwest, bordered by Canada, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Boise is the capital and largest city, while the state’s 44 counties extend across the Rocky Mountains, the Snake River Plain and deep river canyons. Large areas of forest, wilderness and public land make outdoor recreation and natural resources central to Idaho’s identity. The Idaho Territory was created in 1863, and Idaho entered the Union in 1890. Agriculture, food processing, technology, manufacturing, mining, forestry and tourism support its economy.
