Location overview
Lewiston is a city in north-central Idaho and the seat of Nez Perce County, at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers. Founded during the gold-rush era in 1861, it briefly served as the capital of Idaho Territory. A system of locks and dams connects its inland port with the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean, making the city an important shipping center. River canyons, nearby plateaus and a mild valley climate distinguish its setting. Transportation, manufacturing, agriculture, forestry, health care and education support the modern economy.
