Location overview
Potlatch is a small city in northern Latah County, Idaho, surrounded by forests and the rolling farmland of the Palouse. The Potlatch Lumber Co. founded it in 1905 as a planned company town for what was then one of the world’s largest white-pine mills. Broad streets, workers’ houses and civic buildings preserve the unusually cohesive design of the original settlement. Although the major mill closed in the 1980s, timber remains central to local identity. Forestry, agriculture, small businesses and outdoor recreation support the community today.
