Latah County occupies Idaho’s north-central Palouse region along the Washington border. Moscow is the county seat and largest city, while Potlatch, Troy, Kendrick and smaller communities extend from rolling farmland into forested mountains and river canyons. Created in 1888, the county developed through wheat farming, timber and rail transportation. The University of Idaho gives the area a major educational and research presence. Agriculture, forestry, higher education, technology, manufacturing and outdoor recreation shape its economy and culture.
