Hendricks County borders Indianapolis on the west, with Danville as its county seat and Avon, Brownsburg and Plainfield among its largest communities. Glacial deposits created a gently rolling landscape crossed by White Lick Creek, Mill Creek and broad stretches of farmland. The county was formed in 1824 and named for Indiana Gov. William Hendricks; the National Road, railroads and later interstate highways accelerated its growth. Hendricks County had about 193,500 residents in 2025. Its economy blends agriculture with advanced manufacturing, construction, health care, retail and a large logistics sector near Indianapolis International Airport.
