Location overview
Washtenaw County is in southeastern Michigan and includes Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and smaller towns and townships. The Huron River crosses the county, linking urban areas with parks, wetlands and wooded land. Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti are home to the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University, respectively, making higher education a defining part of the region. Farther from those cities, farmland, forests and rolling terrain give parts of the county a more rural character.
