Kittson County, Minnesota, USA

Kittson County occupies the northwestern corner of Minnesota, bordered by Manitoba, Canada, to the north, North Dakota across the Red River of the North to the west, Marshall County to the south and Roseau County to the east. Hallock is the county seat and largest city. The county lies within the flat former bed of glacial Lake Agassiz, with low, gently rolling terrain dominated by cropland, drainage channels and small communities. The Red River forms its western boundary, while the Two Rivers system crosses the county and converges near Hallock. U.S. Highway 75 and Minnesota highways 11 and 175 provide the main transportation routes. Agriculture—particularly grain, oilseed and sugar-beet production—remains central to the local economy. Kittson County covers approximately 1,099 square miles of land and had 4,207 residents at the 2020 census, making it one of Minnesota’s least densely populated counties.
