Bowman County, North Dakota, USA

Bowman County is a rural county in the southwestern corner of North Dakota, bordered by Montana to the west and South Dakota to the south. The county consists largely of rolling prairie, agricultural land and semiarid uplands, with the Little Missouri River crossing its western portion and the North Fork of the Grand River feeding Bowman-Haley Lake in the south-central part of the county. Bowman is the county seat and largest community, while Rhame, Scranton and Gascoyne are the county’s other incorporated cities. U.S. highways 12 and 85 provide the principal regional transportation routes. Agriculture—especially cattle ranching, wheat and other field crops—remains central to the local economy, alongside oil and natural-gas production. Bowman County covers about 1,162 square miles of land, had 2,993 residents at the 2020 census and lies entirely within the Mountain Time Zone.
