Location overview
Hudson County is an urban county in northeastern New Jersey, across the Hudson River from New York City. Its 12 municipalities include Jersey City, Hoboken, Bayonne and Secaucus. The Hudson, Hackensack and Passaic rivers, Newark Bay and the Kill Van Kull shape its peninsulas and waterfronts. Railroads and shipping transformed the area into an industrial center during the 19th century. Former rail yards along the waterfront later became parkland and sites for residential and commercial redevelopment.
