Nassau County, New York, USA
County or equivalent
Location overview

Nassau County occupies part of Long Island in New York. It was established in 1899 from the eastern portion of Queens County after the western portion joined New York City. Hempstead, North Hempstead and Oyster Bay are its three towns. Commuter rail service and postwar housing development transformed much of its farmland into suburban communities. Its North Shore retains a legacy of large country estates.
