Wood County, Ohio, USA
County or equivalent
Location overview
Wood County lies in northwestern Ohio, with Bowling Green as its county seat. Organized in 1820, it was named for Eleazer D. Wood, the military engineer who planned Fort Meigs. The Maumee River became its northern boundary when Lucas County was formed in 1835. Much of its landscape was once part of the Great Black Swamp and later developed into productive farmland. Perrysburg served as the county seat before that role moved to Bowling Green.
