Lawrence County lies along Tennessee’s southern border with Alabama, with Lawrenceburg as its county seat and Loretto, St. Joseph and Ethridge among its incorporated communities. The county spans about 618 square miles of rolling farmland, forests, open country and creeks, including Shoal Creek, while the Natchez Trace Parkway crosses its northwestern corner. David Crockett lived and operated mills in the area during its early settlement, and his legacy remains closely associated with the county. Lawrence County had an estimated population of 46,914 in 2025, about 6.2% above the 2020 estimates base. Agriculture is a leading industry, complemented by automotive suppliers, metalworking and other manufacturing, retail and regional services.
