Denton County, Texas, USA

Denton County is located in North Texas, forming part of the northern Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area and extending from the urbanized suburbs north of Dallas and Fort Worth to the Red River counties near Oklahoma. It is bordered by Cooke and Grayson counties to the north, Collin County to the east, Dallas and Tarrant counties to the south, and Wise County to the west. Denton, the county seat and largest wholly contained city, anchors the county’s central area, while substantial portions of Frisco, Plano, Carrollton, Lewisville, Flower Mound and several other municipalities also lie within its boundaries. Interstate 35 divides into I-35E and I-35W in Denton, connecting the county with Dallas and Fort Worth, while Lewisville Lake and Ray Roberts Lake are major geographic and recreational features. Once predominantly agricultural, Denton County has become one of the fastest-growing suburban counties in the United States, with an economy based on education, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, technology and professional services. The county covers about 878 square miles of land and had 906,422 residents at the 2020 census.
