Location overview

El Paso County is the westernmost county in Texas, in the border region adjoining New Mexico and Chihuahua, Mexico. It was established in 1850, with San Elizario as its first county seat. Its communities include El Paso, Socorro, San Elizario, Horizon City and smaller settlements along the Rio Grande corridor. The Franklin and Hueco mountains shape the county’s northern and eastern landscapes. Historic missions at Ysleta and Socorro and the San Elizario Presidio Chapel reflect its long history as a crossroads between Mexico and the southwestern United States.
