Orange County, Virginia, USA

County or equivalent

Location overview

Orange County lies in Virginia’s Piedmont between Charlottesville, Fredericksburg and the Washington metropolitan region. Orange is the county seat, while Gordonsville and rural communities are set among rolling farms, forests and the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Created in 1734, the county once covered a vast western territory before later jurisdictions were formed. Montpelier, the home of James Madison, and several Civil War sites reflect its layered history. Agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, construction and regional commuting support the economy.
