Location overview
Snohomish County is in western Washington, extending from Puget Sound to the crest of the Cascade Mountains. Most of its urban development lies in the western lowlands, while the Stillaguamish and Snohomish river systems connect mountain valleys with the sound. Everett has been the county seat since 1897. The county was established from Island County in 1861. Timber, farming and later aerospace manufacturing helped shape its economy, while communities in its southwestern corner grew as suburbs of Seattle.
