Washington is a state in the Pacific Northwest, bordered by Canada, Idaho, Oregon and the Pacific Ocean. Olympia is the state capital, while Seattle is its largest city and the center of its largest metropolitan area. The Cascade Range divides the wetter western portion of the state from the generally drier interior, creating distinct geographic and climatic regions. Washington had an estimated population of about 8 million in 2025 and includes 39 counties. Its economy includes technology, aerospace, agriculture, forestry, maritime trade, manufacturing and tourism.
