Thurston County lies at the southern end of Puget Sound in western Washington. Olympia, the state capital, is its county seat. Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater form the county’s main urban area in the north. Smaller communities include Yelm, Rainier, Tenino and Bucoda, with rural areas extending beyond them.
