Olympia is Washington’s capital and the county seat of Thurston County. It lies on Budd Inlet at the southern end of Puget Sound. The city was incorporated in 1859 and had served as the territorial capital since 1853. Its waterfront developed around maritime trade, while the state capitol campus helped shape the city’s growth.
