Dana Point is a coastal city in southern Orange County, California, overlooking the Pacific Ocean between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its bluffs and headlands frame Dana Point Harbor, a major center for boating and visits to the coast. The city also includes the Capistrano Beach and Monarch Beach communities, each with a distinct stretch of shoreline. Incorporated in 1989, Dana Point developed around its maritime setting, beaches and visitor economy. The Headlands conservation area protects coastal habitat above the harbor.
