Orange County is located in Southern California, stretching from the Pacific Ocean eastward into the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. It is bordered by Los Angeles County to the northwest, San Bernardino County to the northeast, Riverside County to the east, San Diego County to the southeast and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. Santa Ana serves as the county seat, while Anaheim, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Orange, Fullerton, Garden Grove and Mission Viejo are among its largest cities. The county encompasses a diverse landscape that includes more than 40 miles of coastline, broad suburban plains, the Santa Ana River, Cleveland National Forest and major protected open spaces. Interstate 5, Interstate 405, State Route 91 and State Route 55 are among the principal transportation corridors. Orange County is a global center for technology, healthcare, tourism, higher education, finance, advanced manufacturing and international trade, with major attractions including Disneyland Resort and John Wayne Airport. The county covers approximately 790 square miles of land and had 3,186,989 residents at the 2020 census, making it the third-most populous county in California.
