Santa Monica is a coastal city on the west side of Los Angeles County, California. Its Pacific beaches and Santa Monica Pier are prominent features of the city’s landscape. Incorporated in 1886, it adopted a city charter in 1945 and a council-manager government in 1947. Residential neighborhoods, commercial districts and tourism contribute to its character and economy.
