Cedar Falls, Black Hawk County, Iowa, USA

Cedar Falls is a city in Black Hawk County, Iowa, located in northeastern Iowa along the Cedar River approximately 100 miles northeast of Des Moines and 65 miles west of Dubuque. It forms the western half of the Waterloo–Cedar Falls metropolitan area, with the Cedar River separating portions of the two communities while serving as a defining natural feature of the city’s landscape. Cedar Falls lies within Iowa’s gently rolling Drift Plain, characterized by fertile agricultural land, hardwood forests along river corridors and numerous parks and trails. U.S. Highway 20 and Iowa Highway 58 provide regional transportation links, while the city is home to the University of Northern Iowa, making it an important educational, cultural and economic center for northeastern Iowa. Covering approximately 30 square miles, Cedar Falls had a population of 40,713 at the 2020 census and consistently ranks among Iowa’s larger and fastest-growing cities. The combination of its university, riverfront, historic downtown and regional commercial role makes Cedar Falls one of eastern Iowa’s principal communities.
