Clinton is a city in eastern Iowa and the seat of Clinton County, set along the Mississippi River opposite Illinois. Its riverfront, traditional downtown and residential neighborhoods occupy a narrow plain below wooded bluffs. The city grew rapidly in the 19th century as lumber mills, railroads and river shipping made it a regional industrial center. Historic architecture and river views preserve connections to that era.
