Brown City, Sanilac County, Michigan, USA
Municipality
Location overview

Brown City is a small city in Michigan’s Thumb region, mostly in Sanilac County with a portion in Lapeer County. It developed in the late 19th century where a railroad line crossed what is now M-90. Rail access helped the community serve surrounding farms and move agricultural products to wider markets. The city retains a compact downtown and residential neighborhoods within a largely rural landscape. Its position between the two counties and its farming hinterland shape its local role.
