Location overview
Inkster is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, west of Detroit. It was named for Robert Inkster, a Scottish immigrant who operated a steam sawmill near present-day Inkster Road and Michigan Avenue. The community grew during the 1920s as workers sought jobs at nearby automotive factories. Wartime production and postwar housing development further shaped its neighborhoods. Michigan Avenue remains a major commercial corridor.
