Location overview

Falls City is the seat of Richardson County in southeastern Nebraska, near the Kansas and Missouri borders. Founded in 1857, it developed near falls on the Nemaha River and served as a stop on the Lane Trail used by free-state emigrants traveling to Kansas. Railroads arriving in the late 19th century helped expand its role in regional trade. Poultry processing, dairying, banking and county government also shaped its development. The city remains a commercial and administrative center for surrounding rural communities.
