Manchester is a community in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, set within New Hampshire’s river valleys, wooded uplands and compact urban centers. New Hampshire’s largest city developed around the Amoskeag mills beside the Merrimack River. Much of its historic form emerged as water-powered mills, railroads and immigration drove nineteenth-century growth, with later suburban and commercial growth adding new layers.
