New Hampshire

New Hampshire is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States, bordered by Maine and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Massachusetts to the south, Vermont to the west and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north. Although compact, the state contains several distinct geographic regions, including a short Atlantic coastline around Portsmouth, the forested and lake-filled southeastern lowlands, the Merrimack River valley, the central Lakes Region and the rugged White Mountains in the north. Mount Washington, the highest point in the northeastern United States, rises within the Presidential Range, while Lake Winnipesaukee is the state’s largest lake. Concord is the capital, Manchester is the largest city, and much of the population is concentrated in the southern portion of the state near the Boston metropolitan area. New Hampshire was one of the original 13 colonies and became the ninth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution on June 21, 1788.
